Ebikes are a great way to visit parts of the Lough Derg area that you otherwise might not get to see, but an even better way to experience the lake is to combine an eBike tour with one of the many other activities on offer. Over the last year we have been developing ‘combined experiences’. Read on to discover some of the available options!

eBike and Lake Cruise

In the summer of 2025, Derg Lake Tours began operating a RIB on the lake. Based out of Terryglass and Portumna, they offer a number of different ways to explore the lake on a comfortable but speedy boat. And a great way to experience this is to combine a boat trip with an eBike tour. Start your tour from either Dromineer or Garrykennedy, then explore the North Tipperary countryside by eBike, passing by ancient churches and castles, and seeing some great views of the lough, before arriving at Terryglass. Here you can get a discounted lunch at the Derg Inn, before heading down to the harbour. Here, you will board the RIB and sail back to your start point. Note that while the maximum group size for eBiking is 6, the RIB can accommodate up to 10 people, so if some of the group would prefer not to cycle, they can be accommodated with just the discounted lunch and the RIB journey.

eBike and Kayak

My Next Adventure offer kayak tours at Killaloe, exploring the canal and the River Shannon. When you book the combined eBike and Kayak experience, you will spend the morning exploring the Killaloe area by eBike, then go for a discounted lunch, and then spend the afternoon on a kayak tour. For groups larger than 6, the group will be split into 2, with one group eBiking while the other kayaks, then swapping around for the afternoon. For the eBike portion of the experience, there is a choice of 2 routes. One route takes you south along the Shannon, into Birdhill before crossing the Shannon at O’Brien’s Bridge, then visiting the Parteen Weir (pictured below). Then you will return to Killaloe via quiet roads in County Clare. The alternative route is shorter, and involves a loop around Killaloe, taking in the River Shannon banks, plus many historic sites within Killaloe and Ballina, and a trip to the southern end of Lough Derg at Two Mile Gate. Then for the Kayaking portion of the experience, you will see many of the sights of Killaloe and the River Shannon from the water. It’s a great way to cover all the angles!

Inis Cealtra Tour

Inis Cealtra (Holy Island) was a monastic site, founded in the 6th Century. For several centuries, it was a centre of learning and of pilgrimage, and although the monasteries are long gone, it is still a wonderfully peaceful place to visit and wander among the ruins. The Inis Cealtra tour starts from either Killaloe or from Tuamgraney. The longer version, from Killaloe, involves eBiking along the Lough Derg shore to historic Tuamgraney and on to Mountshannon via quiet country roads. The shorter version just takes in the 2nd half of the journey from Tuamgraney. Along the route you will see historic sites, such as the 10th Century St Cronan’s Church, and the historic market town of Scarriff. On arrival in Mountshannon, you will head down to the harbour, and have the chance to call in at the Inis Cealtra Visitor Experience, where you can watch a video and see exhibits showing the history of the island, as well as enjoying a break for tea or coffee. Then youn will board a boat, operated by Ger Madden, which will take you to the island, and there you will have an hour to wander around and soak up the atmosphere, before returning to the mainland and cycling back to your start point.
