We have developed arrangements with various local accommodation providers, where guests can book an ebike tour and get their bikes delivered to the accommodation for free as well as availing of a 15% discount. In addition, guests can book a self-guided rental with free delivery. You can also avail of our family discount rate, available for groups with 2 adults and 3 under-18s. We have no age restriction, however, guests must be at least 5′ tall in order to use our eBikes. Over the coming months, I will be focussing on our accommodation partners.

Killaloe Hotel and Spa is on the Clare side of the river. It is a 4-star Boutique hotel, offering good quality rooms, great food and spa treatments.

The Lakeside Hotel is on the opposite side of the Shannon, in County Tipperary. It offers 4-star accommodation, good quality food and a swimming pool and leisure centre. You may also recognise the hotel from the recent TV series ‘Blackshore’, as many of the location scenes were filmed here!

Our third accommodation partner near to Killaloe is Red Door Cottage. This is a vacation rental in a beautiful setting in the hills above Ballina. It’s a perfect spot for hiking, being on the Lough Derg Way, or just for relaxing and watching the spectacular sunset!

Tour 1 – The Three Counties Shannon Tour

Explore the Shannon shores in Counties Tipperary, Limerick and Clare, taking in Parteen Weir as well as the historic river towns of Ballina, Killaloe and O’Brien’s Bridge. The tour includes a coffee break at the Old Barracks in Birdhill (not included in price).

First, we head away from the river in County Tipperary, along quiet back roads to the old Limerick Road, which has a cycle lane to take you into Birdhill for a coffee break.

Next, we head down very quiet back roads to the Shannon crossing at O’Brien’s Bridge, where we briefly call in on County Limerick, before heading to Parteen Weir. This is a spectacular feat of engineering, built in the 1920s in the early years of the Irish Free State. Here you can marvel at the construction while enjoying the views up and down the river.

After Parteen Weir, we cross into County Clare, and return to Killaloe via one of two routes. Either we can enjoy the gentle rolling hills on the back roads through to Killaloe, or we can go over the dramatic summit at Lackareagh Beg. The choice is yours!

Tour 2 – Hills, Crafts and Coffee

This tour explores the western lake shore in County Clare, up to Scarriff and back.

First we head north, past the popular swimming spot at Two Mile Gate, before heading uphill on quiet roads to historic Tuamgraney. Tuamgraney features the oldest church which is still in regular use in Ireland. Here you can also visit Wilde Irish Chocolate or McKernan’s Woollen Mills.

A short distance from Tuamgraney we come to the historic market town of Scariff, where you can pause for a coffee and/or a spot of lunch at the East Clare Community Cooperative.

We next return to Killaloe, and here you have a choice of two routes. If you enjoyed the moderate hill climb en route to Tuamgraney, and want to push yourself further, then we can return via hill roads in the Slieve Bearnagh Range. Or we can return via the gentler (but very scenic) route along the cycle track which follows the main road along the Lough Derg shore. Again, the choice is yours!

Tour 3 – Garrykennedy and Uplands

There are several variations of this tour, it is up to you how far and how high you wish to go! Whichever version you do, you will see beautiful lake views from the Tipperary shore.

You can either start from Ballina, and head up over the hills to Garrykennedy, returning via the Arra range to Killaloe, or you can start and end in Garrykennedy and explore the area without doing the steep climbs if you prefer.

Highlights of the tour include the beautiful harbour town on Garrykennedy, which features the remains of a 15th Century castle, as well as beautiful lake views and the charming Larkins pub.

From Garrykennedy we head uphill. How much climbing we do is up to you, but either way we will come to stunning views of Lough Derg.
