Visit historic Killaloe via the quite back roads of North Tipperary
This self-guided route takes you up to Ballina and across the river to historic Killaloe. Then returning to Nenagh through the foothills of the Arra mountain range, featuring great views of the Silvermine Mountains along the way.

Ride Type - avoids steepest climbs but a significant distance. Recommended for people who are moderately fit and accustomed to cycling.
Start - Nenagh Tourist Office
The route starts in Nenagh, and proceeds along quiet back roads to Ballina. The route avoids the steepest climbs by directing you around the edge of the Arra mountain range for 25km into Ballina.

The route continues downhill into Ballina which is a bustling town that lies on the river Shannon. It is situated on the eastern bank of the River Shannon, at the southern end of Lough Derg, and offers great views, places of historic interest, places to stay and great coffee shops and eateries.

Killaloe, Co. Clare
Across the historic bridge from Ballina, we proceed into County Clare. Because the bridge can be extremely busy, it is recommended to walk across unless it is traffic free.
Killaloe is a medieval town which was once capital of Ireland and home of the famous High King Brian Boru. There are many places to get a coffee or a spot of lunch before heading back across the river to continue the tour.

Last Stop - Nenagh, Co Tipperary
The final 20km of the route take you along quiet back roads through the foothills of the Arra mountain range, and on to the Old Limerick Road. Here there is a dedicated cycle lane, which we follow for 5km before turning off to the right, looking towards the Silvermines range, and finally heading back to the Nenagh Tourist Office, your starting place in Nenagh.
