This tour takes you on a tour around Fethard, before heading into the surrounding countryside. The cycling is fairly easy, and the route is 20km (13 miles) long.

You will then be given a private tour of Knockelly Castle, before returning to the start point.

What do I need to wear?

You need to wear comfortable clothing. Lightweight rain gear is always advisable.

What do I have to pay?

The price for this tour is €400 per group, up to a maximum of 6 people. 

How long is the tour?

The tour is 3 hours, including an hour at Knockelly Castle. The cycling portion is 20km, on quiet roads with no major climbs, rated 'Easy'.

You can book your slot online. Guided tours must be purchased in advance, by close of business the day before.

How many people will there be on the tour?

We have a maximum of 6 people per tour. It may be possible to cater for groups larger than 6 on request, but this would be on a case by case basis.

Where does the tour begin?

The tour usually begins from the Ballroom car park at Fethard. However, if you are staying at accommodation in the Fethard area, then we will usually be able to start from there.

Fethard Town Walls

Fethard

Fethard is a walled town, dating back to the 13th Century. This tour will take you on a loop around the town, visiting the Main Street and seeing several sections of the town walls. We will leave the town via the only remaining gate, namely the North Gate.

The countryside around Fethard is known as the Golden Vale due its lush nature, and we will explore the area on quiet back roads, passing numerous large estates, before seeing a magnificent view down over the famous Coolmore Stud.

Knockelly Castle

Knockelly Castle was built in the 15th Century, and is currently undergoing a restoration project. You will get a private guided tour of the castle and its 18th century farmhouse by the current owners, Jeremy and Sybil.

This tour takes you through the medieval town of Fethard, exploring the town walls and hearing of how the town was built as a refuge for Norman Settlers before becoming an important market town.

Leaving the town behind, we will explore the beautiful Golden Vale countryside, passing by large estates, attractive homes, and even the home of the father of a notorious Australian outlaw!

As we get closer to Knockelly, you will enjoy panoramic views over the Coolmore Stud farm to the mountain ranges beyond.

On arrival at Knockelly Castle, you will enjoy a private tour of the Castle, hearing stories of the Castle's past owners and the restoration works being carried out presently.

Finally, you will return to your start point, and will have the option of enjoying lunch at Sadler's Restaurant (not included in the price).
